I made the long drive to my Dad's place to celebrate Guy Fawks last week. A fun filled time of making a Guy, building the bonfire, enjoying the bonfire since it had been raining all day and then turned to snow and then fireworks! This photo doesn't do the fireworks justice, and with the rain and snow I decided to put my camera away before it was soaked. But there were a lot, it was fantastic!

Headpiece: Made by Melissa
My costume and the three fairy costumes made by me
Katrina: Ursula dress made by herself
I can't believe I did it, especially on top of working full time and going to school part time but I did! It was right down to the wire but I do work well under pressure.
A big thank you to these three fairies for making this Halloween so amazing, the parading around the bar was hilarious. In case you wondered, it was the guys idea to dress up as the fairies when I told them I was dressing up as Maleficent.

Top: Better On You
Sandals: Vegas Outlet Mall
Bangles: Dollar store
We have had some amazing weather here for the month of October, in fact I can't remember ever having such a nice October around here. Unfortunately the full time work load and part time classes have prevented me from enjoying the weather as much as I would like. Then add in the four Halloween costumes I've been making and I've got myself a big pile of work.
I can't wait to post photos of Halloween costumes.

Maxi Dress: Selfmade
I've been making the most of the delightful weather we've had around here and wearing dresses as much as possible. It's funny because it's nice enough during the day still to wear dresses but quite a few evenings have cooled off so much I've worn a scarf with a light jacket in the morning. Oh well. I love all the layering of fall fashion so I will be making the most of that!
Too bad I was so lazy I got the beau to take these photos on the iphone instead of my DSLR and this was the result!

I was super inspired by these fun painted bags by Burberry Prorsum and decided to give it a try.
You will need:
A purse of your liking
I thrifted this patent purse and picked up some paint colours to go with this project. I ended up stuffing the purse with magazines to make the side even and easier to paint on.
Start with the stem and leaves to get the proportion you want.
Add your flowers and any extra details and voila!
Don't forget to finish up with a finishing spray to protect your work of art.
I have a lot of other fall fashion ideas to put into action so stay tuned!

Skirt: Self made
Booties: Nine West
I had started this skirt a while ago and then finally got around to putting on the waistband and doing the hem this weekend. The gorgeous weather was all the incentive I needed to get it done so I could enjoy it! The skirt is a "lazy" pattern where I just cut two pieces the width of the fabric to the desired length, make a seam at the center back and insert a zipper, gathering the skirt into the waistband measuring slightly larger than my waist for an overlap hook and bar closure above the waistband. Easy peasy.
Sadly the dusk lighting doesn't show off the amazing detailing in the sweater.

Ralph Lauren Blazer: Thrifted
Shorts: Gift from Natasha
The next couple of days look to be the last of summer around here, I can't complain though summer here has been gorgeous.
Some big and exciting news for me is that I have gone back to school part time for the fall semester at The Fashion Institute to take some ladies Victorian costume making classes. I will be learning to make corsets, bustles and the clothing of 1883-1888 time period which was considered the resurgence of the bustle. As I will still be working full time the next few months are going to be crazy busy, but I'm just so happy that my work is allowing me to do this I don't care about how busy I will be!

Shorts: Joe Fresh
Orchid Earrings: Gallery in Saugatuck
The beau and I put 6600km on my Fiat in 10 days on our road trip this summer. Our stop on the way back at Mount Rushmore was amazing, it was a great break from driving all day and the weather for this brief period was gorgeous.

Onesie: Saks Outlet
I wore this outfit to a friends house warming and kept it casual with sandals but next time I'm busting out the heels. My friend was kind enough to snap these late night photos since I had forgotten to do so when the sun was out!

Top: Banana Republic
Cropped Pants: Banana Republic
I got the printed pants in Vegas and when I got home the beau saw them and asked if I had gotten him another pair of Loudmouth golf pants. Nope, these crazy pants are all mine.

I'm with Natasha on this, it's been awhile since I've done one of these things.
I have been given this award by Natasha of TashaDelrae and on the night before I take off on my ten day road trip I am dutifully completing it so I don't forget! I would like to say that Natasha's blog is my absolute favourite, she always looks amazing, is incredibly talented at designing and stitching clothes and all this while raising kids!
Natasha's questions are as follows:
1. Does blogging feel more like a hobby or a chore and why?
Blogging is a hobby but I've been a rather poor blogger lately, I think Natasha has nominated me to get my butt back in the game
2. If you could represent any brand, which one would you choose and why?
I love so many brands out there but I would have to go with Balmain because even though I think I have evolved so much over the years Balmain cotinues to inspire me and I have sewn so many garments that have been a twist on something I have seen from this brand.
3. What's your favourite F word?
(This seemed like the most appropriate answer since my brain went in all directions at this question).
4. If you could learn to make anything new, what would it be?
Knitted garments, admittedly I am currently learning to knit a bit but it seems like I'll never get to the crazy knitted things I really want to knit!
5. Describe your favourite outfit. (That counts as a question right?..haha)
A dress and heels, nothing makes me feel like I can take on the world more.
6. Is there any style of clothing that you would love to wear, but can't? What and why?
Super high heels. First of all I'm almost 6ft tall (not that that stops me from wearing heels) but most importantly my job requires a lot of standing to make patterns and cutting out costumes and the table isn't that high to begin with.
7. What do you wish you had more time for?
Designing and sewing my own clothes.
8. If calories meant nothing, what would you stuff your face with?
As anyone who knows me can attest to calories don't mean anything to me, I do try to eat my fruits and vegetables but if I want to make a batch of chocolate chip cookies and then eat them all I will.
9. What are your favourite online shops?
I love Gilt and Net-A-Porter they keep me inspired.
10. If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
Paris or pretty much anywhere in the UK, Paris for all the patisseries and The UK for all the pubs and awesome people.
Thats easy, Natasha of course!
Okay I apparently need to nominate some people but I will not be following the rules on this one, so I nominate:
1. You have to link back to the person that nominated you ( I found out about mine through instagram)
2. You must answer 11 questions given to you by the person that nominated you.
3. After completing these questions you must nominate 11 bloggers with under 200 followers and give them 11 questions of your choice.
4. You must not nominate the person who nominated you.
5. You must let your nominees know that they have been nominated and provide a link for them to your post so that they can learn about it.
1. What got you into blogging?
2. How do you stay inspired to blog?
3. Where do you most want to travel to that you have not been to yet?
4. Whats the most amazing food you've ever eaten and where?
5. What's your favourite F word? (I'm stealing this question because I think the answers will be all over the map on how depending on how the question is interpreted!)
6. What are you currently reading?
7. Cat or dog?
8. Do you have a secret talent? (ie. picking celebrity doubles for people, picking up things with your toes)
9. The world would be a better place with more _______?
10. If you were a shoe what would you look like?
11. What came first: the chicken or the egg? (I can't believe no one else has asked this question)
I can't wait to see peoples responses!

Dress: Fredericks of Hollywood
Bracelets: Ten Thousand Villages
Necklace: Borrowed from Natasha
Coincidentally, my dress is the only outfit here not made by someone in the photo. I did make Rachel's knit and gold sparkle knit dress in the center though, and I still have the sparkles all over my sewing room to prove it.
On this particular evening we went to see an adult variety show called Nocturne at The Cosmopolitan. It was hilarious and included a wide variety of talent.

Crop Top: Selfmade
Wrap skirt: borrowed the idea from Natasha
I'd like to go back to Vegas just so I can wear crop tops everyday again, there have only been a couple nice days in Calgary where I haven't felt as though I was freezing!
I also haven't sewn anything since I've gotten back, I seem to of lost my sewing mojo. Maybe that means I need another girls trip to motivate me?

Crop Top & Skirt: Designed and made by me
Vegas was a gamer of repeat, get up and go hang out at the pool, go shopping, and then go out at night and oh yeah maybe sleep a couple hours in there somewhere. Everyday we were there. It was awesome. I have some amazing lady friends.
Monday, June 23, 2014
I recently celebrated a big birthday so the girls and I went to Las Vegas to celebrate. Mostly it was just a good excuse for us to take off. The amazing man in my life arranged for this fabulous limo to pick us up and drop us off while in Vegas, it was fatantastic.

Crop top & skirt: Designed and made by me
So I have a big birthday coming up next month and this is an outfit I've made for the occasion. I'm going to Vegas with four girlfriends so I thought that required some fun outfits, I've got a few more on the go so stay tuned!
Natasha is coming as well, have you seen some of the amazing things she's been making?

Polka Dot Dress: Thrifted
Spring is here but tights are still needed some days, normal in Alberta with our crazy fluctuating weather but I really want it to be sunny and wonderful everyday. It's only the beginning of May but it seems like afternoons on patios and evenings rollerblading are long overdue.
Afterthought: My fun red hair makes up for the lack of colour in this outfit, at least I think so......

The weather has finally turned nice out and I am past ready for it! I adore all the spring/summer fashions out and think a staycation will be in order so I can get all the stitching done that I want.
Any big sewing projects on your list?

The weather here per usual has been fluctuating like crazy from one day to the next, but spring is here and I can't wait for the warmer sunnier days to come. It also means I need to get to my spring sewing!
